A space for dialogue to rethink inclusion in the digital era
In the Cameroonian context, which is characterised by significant digital, social, and legal inequalities especially affecting women and people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities this consultation provided an opportunity to:
assess the challenges faced by activists in digital spaces;
identify risks related to online violence targeting women and gender minorities;
reflect on digital strategies that foster greater inclusion and representation;
lay the foundations for a collaborative framework among women community leaders.
Digital tools as a driver of social transformation
Participants emphasised the growing importance of digital platforms in:
documenting human rights violations;
raising community awareness;
mobilising and networking;
protecting activists exposed to discrimination and cyber violence.
The consultation also highlighted the need for structured support to strengthen the digital capacities of women activists, enabling them to use digital platforms in a secure, strategic, and impactful manner.
Towards a sustainable framework for collaboration
At the conclusion of the discussions, several key recommendations emerged, including:
the establishment of a permanent consultation framework for women activists;
the development of targeted training on digital security;
the creation of digital initiatives to amplify the voices of marginalised women;
strengthened synergies between organisations working on gender and sexual diversity.
Through this initiative, PULSEAIDS reaffirms its commitment to promoting an inclusive, equitable, and rights-based digital transformation in Cameroon.
